Like many young girls, my interest for makeup stemmed from trying to make my appearance better and fit into societal norms, but as I have grown up I have understood makeup as being much more than a mask to cover my flaws, but rather a tool to help enhance my features.
I now use makeup to make myself, and others, feel beautiful. I love doing makeup on other people/clients and seeing their reaction to their transformation. I enjoy making people feel their most beautiful and I think thats what makeup is all about.
Since publicly starting my makeup interest I have had a huge amount of interest from friends, family and even a small group of clients and have created makeup for parties, events and proms.
Makeup has become a great outlet for my creativity and I love experimenting with new products and colours, techniques and shapes that I would not necessarily use on the every day, like bright greens or cloud inspired looks.
I use my instagram page @makeupbymeguapa to showcase the looks I create, and also get masses of inspirations from both my followers and people I follow. Social media is a great way to advertise my makeup and the skills I have learnt.
My biggest inspiration for the more editorial makeup I create is pop and celeb culture, taking inspiration from a variety of different sources. Large publicised events such as the Met Gala, The Oscars and more are amazing showcases of not only fashion, but also makeup and the artists behind them.
My interest in prosthetic and makeup for film developed during my time at university. While I have always shown an interest in this field of makeup, I had never really had the opportunity to try my hand at it. When working on a film that requested a cut on the arm, I jumped at the chance and realise that I not only had a passion for makeup sfx, but also a blossoming talent.
Since this first film, I have worked on many student productions. Some require sfx makeup and prostethis, from grazed knuckles, to bruises, to bullet wound and burns, and some aim to depict people from different eras. So far I have worked on a piece surrounding the 1920s rebellion scene and, more recently, a 1950s horror.
Makeup for film, prosthetic and SFX makeup is definitely the area of makeup that I am most interested in, and I hope to go on to completing a masters degree in prosthetic and sculpting, before starting a career in the film industry working with some of the most talented SFX artists in the world.
