Snow White

Recreating Snow White

Published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812, Snow White is one of the most widely known fairy tales across the globe, thought to have originated in Germany in the 19th century under the name Sneewittchen. Snow White later became the first of Walt Disney's Princess animations in 1937. The story of Snow White is the most interesting out of all three of my recreations, and before my research into the origins of the tale, I had no idea of the true horror depicted in this Princess story.

The ending shows Snow White's Queen Step-Mother reluctantly attending her step-daughters wedding. Upon her arrival, Snow had prepared some iron shoes on the fire, which were now red-hot. She places them in front of her mother and tells her to dance until her death. The Queen adorns the hot iron shoes and dances until she collapses to the floor, witnessed by all the guests in attendance.

The Makeup

I used the story of Snow White and her Step-Mother to showcase my work with modelling products, and for the burns I used 3rd Degree, a two part modelling system that, once mixed together, creates a mouldable gel which can be used to create scars, burns or just general texture to the skin.

Once the 3rd Degree had been applied, I used an array of products to create blistering, pus, peeling skin, blood etc to try and create a wound that looked as realistic as possible. This FX was placed on the top of the foot, the ankle and the toes, and was by far the longest part of the shoot.
